SWITCH IT UP

Kyouei Design :: Switch Chair & DJ Table

I will spare you the Daft Punk song (Technologic) that came to my mind immediately after finding this this set of table and chairs by the Japanese based, Kyouei Design.  Although the usability is questionable, the texture, pattern, and repetition of the designs are quite nice.

LED RO SHAM BEAUX

Rock beats scissor just like LEDs trump incandescent lamps in nearly every way.  And now, lamp designs from companies such as German-based ledo are giving us one more reason to kick Edison to the curb.

Dear Incandescent,
you just officially became LED's bitch.  xoxo kat

BEACHY-KEEN

Beached House :: BKK Architects

Interested in the art of origami and the possibility of spaces folding into each other, Beached House by BKK Architects employs an interesting formal language that allows the space to simultaneously feel open and private.  Room dividing partitions and thoughtful space-planning maximize the home's square footage, and generous glazing capitalizes on the site and natural light.  BKK self describes this home as "beached", romanticizing the idea that this home was washed ashore and is now clinging to land, even if just momentarily.

WHITE RUM BY YELLOWS

RUM Photoshoot :: Yellows Photography

Slowly falling in love with Yellows Photography based out of Denmark. Anyone that can work with a wolf, dried flowers, and some guy with a ridiculous mustache(all in the same shoot) is alright in my book.  But I'll let you be the judge...

DELIGHTFUL SWISS VILLA

Villa Vals :: SeARCH and CMA
Vals, Switzerland

A joint venture between SeArch and Christian Muller Architects (CMA), Villa Vals was designed to seamlessly marry with the landscape while maximizing natural light and views.  With its breathtaking location in the heart of the Swiss Alps and its close proximity to Vals Thermal Baths (by none other than Peter Zumpthor), conspicuity was the name of the game.  The solution?  A vacation villa constructed almost completely underground!

Guests are led via underground tunnel to this charming Swiss getaway.  The abundance of concrete, stone, and wood stay true to the Nordic aesthetic.  The occasional burst of color breathes life into the space, and use of soft materials (and fur!) create a sense of luxury.

This wood table is insane...

The PERFECT place for a morning read...
