Vals, Switzerland
A joint venture between SeArch and Christian Muller Architects (CMA), Villa Vals was designed to seamlessly marry with the landscape while maximizing natural light and views. With its breathtaking location in the heart of the Swiss Alps and its close proximity to Vals Thermal Baths (by none other than Peter Zumpthor), conspicuity was the name of the game. The solution? A vacation villa constructed almost completely underground!
Guests are led via underground tunnel to this charming Swiss getaway. The abundance of concrete, stone, and wood stay true to the Nordic aesthetic. The occasional burst of color breathes life into the space, and use of soft materials (and fur!) create a sense of luxury.
