Gerco de Ruijter :: Photographic Works

In the world of Instagram and SnapChat, rarely do images stop me dead in my tracks like the work of photographer Gerco de Ruijter. Primarily landscapes, his portfolio speaks through almost a godly sense of scale, capturing moments from either incredible distances or microscopic details. I find myself reaching almost a meditative state as I try to figure out angles, textures and subject matter through the eyes of such a wonderful artist. Below are snaps taken from his Iceland, Almost Nature and Lot collections as seen on his site.

JUST SPLENDID

Kitzbuelhel Mansion :: Splendid Architecture
Tyrolia, Austria

Meant to reflect the atmosphere and landscape of the surroundings, Splendid Architecture implemented local materials in an overall modern aesthetic for the Kitzbuelhel Mansion in Tyrolia Austria. A touch of glamour is expressed in lighting and reflective surfaces, but the layout and placement of glazing throughout the facade is meant to celebrate the nature that surrounds the home.

KING'S CROSS PICNIC- LONDON

King's Cross Picnic :: Squire and Partners
London, England

This large scale, indoor/outdoor installation was an attempt by local architecture firm, Squire and Partners, to reclaim and rejuvenate a forgotten area in London known as King's Cross.  The resulting collaboration with landscape designer Jeremy Rye and artist Anna Garforth is this playful picnic area, perfect for the kids(us big kids too :)).  Sod, the main material, acts as art, wraps seating in some places and tickles your toes in the interior of this warehouse space where it acts as throws.  This project is just a friendly reminder that design doesn't always have to be elaborate to be successful as the most important component of any design are the people that occupy it and bring it to life.
