Restaurant André :: Singapore

Cooking. Art. Love.

These are the primary ingredients in the experiential design and execution behind Restaurant André in Singapore. What most impressed me about Restaurant André was the obvious passion behind every aspect of the restaurant, from design, to cuisine, to the graphic style of the website. Its clear that no detail was left unaccounted for. There is a sense of respect and esteem for every sense and every aspect of design.

Here's a couple snaps from the website. The Chef is truly an artist... 

Casual elegance seems to embrace what the goal of the dining experience, "Cuisine is sophisticated and filled with emotion, elegant and simple, always generous, 100% from the heart."[via]

The presentation of the food and the table is not lacking either. Careful attention is once again paid to all aspects...including custom tables and place settings, and artistic dishes which act as the vibrant pops of color that the space might otherwise lack.

BLUXOME STREET WINERY

Bluxome Street Winery :: San Francisco, CA


The Bluxome Street Winery epitomizes the idea of simple sophistication and elegance.  The large expanses of wood in varying textures are complemented by warm lighting and the simplicity of the concrete floors.  Spectacular custom glass pendants (positioned on cranks to adjust heights if desired) dot the event space and contribute to the overall sexy vibe with the exposed filament bulbs. Positioned slightly off the main drag in San Francisco SOMA(South of Market District), this space is perfect for a private tasting or an intimate event with family and friends.

These pendants are actually Italian Demijohns which are used to make wine, store and transport via ship.   Isaac of Bluxome Street Winery informed me that garage wine makers still use these today! (pretty cool, huh?)

This Saturday, thanks to Natalie Bowen Designs,  I stumbled into one of San Francisco newest(and best kept) secrets.  The San Francisco Meet Market is designed to help local, small businesses gain exposure in the SF foodie community.  Each vendor being featured has been hand picked to showcase their talent, delicious food, and true originality.  This week's market was held in the beautiful Bluxome Street Winery, and proved to be the perfect setting for this type of intimate event.

Here's a few of the goodies I splurged on---ALL natural and oh so delicious...

And who could resist some beefy boys and their granola?  San Franola Co. is the one and only granola company that roasts their granola instead of baking or frying.

And of coarse a San Francisco picked bouquet by Natalie Bowen Designs as well as some other goodies I couldn't resist...

Not a bad Saturday :)

GONE COUNTRY

Beetlebung Farm :: Gabriela Herman

Well, as country as Martha's Vineyard can be.  Today, with the help of photographer Gabriela Herman, we're on our way to a special place called Bettlebung Farm.  Head Chef and partner Chris Fischer specializes in farm to table grub--everything you eat here has either been picked or caught that day. Cooking, like all great design, is a combination of colors and textures, with the added bonus of taste.  Like great designers, great chefs compose each meal with a meticulous eye and attention to detail and composition, something that is evident in these beautiful images.  So, today, let's enjoy a little taste...

Just A Little Eye Candy

I love how even with a very similar range of colors, you can see glimpses of each city's personality.  From soft and smooth in France, to the well travelled stairs in Chicago, to the surge of modernity in Berlin, design is not only an expression of culture and trends, but an indication of history, current societal  values, and hopes for the future.  For those of us who love design, we are the lucky ones.  We view the world differently and are incapable of finding beauty in even the most obscure places.
