Juxtaposition, soft and spiky.

There's something lovely about the playful mischief behind these paintings by Aimei Ozaki. The chilly little nips(ok, fine they're cactus) entice you to come closer...but watch out, cause they might getcha! It just seems like they're up to no good. The tension created between sensuality and play is something that I absolutely CANNOT get enough of!

Michael Cina/Michael Cina Associates

After beginning his own design studio, Michael Cina Associates, and focusing primarily on graphics for years(you know him for the Nike swoosh, HP logo, facebook logo, etc etc.) Michael Cina is rediscovering his passion for painting, and I know I'm not the only one who's excited about this. His paintings carry the same sense of refinement and care as his graphics but with a more freely artistic quality mixing acrylic, oil, pigments, and minerals among other media. FACE OF FASHION

Fashion Portraiture :: Anja Van Herle and Jessica Rae Sommer

Ladies, ladies, ladies...you two should really get together! So this is my message to you:
I found myself falling in love with two LA based painters/artist today-- both with insane talent and control of their medium with a love for fashion and the expressions of the female face. Their works are a combination of attitude, seduction and layering...and often a little humor, and I just can't get enough of their portfolios. Anja Van Herle (first 3)  blends high fashion with story-telling. Her portraits always seem a little mischievous, but definitely the type of girlfriend you want on your side! And Jessica Rae Sommer's depiction of emotion through posture, materiality, and especially her subjects eyes is pretty incredible. Jessica uses a variety of media...and bonus---she's trained in interior design!  Both are rock stars in my book, so please enjoy!

JACOB HASHIMOTO - KITES

Jacob Hashimoto :: Installations

Jacob Hashimoto's background in painting and print-making is quite evident in his intricate large scale installations.  The use of layering and repetition are essential in the creation of his massive works of art and unique spatial interventions.  The story behind these "kite works" is also quite interesting as they were an attempt by Hashimoto to work past a personal block and lack of inspiration.  By tirelessly creating the same object over and over again, Hashimoto realized that what he had been searching for was right at this finger tips.  The resulting larger-than-life installations have taken on a life of their own and now range from soft and playful to more graphic and bold.

The next six images are from Jacob Hashimoto's first solo internatioinal exhibit at the Ronchini Gallery in the UK.
